Gil is most noted for his classic songs “Aquele Abraço,” “Refazenda,” and “Andar com Fé”, which helped him land nine Grammy Awards, among other accolades and played a critical role in transforming Brazilian music through the Tropicalismo movement.
Gil has also been impactful with his cultural and humanitarian efforts worldwide, serving as Brazil’s Minister of Culture and became a UN ambassador during his career.
Gil’s career started back in the 1960s and his opposition to Brazil’s 1964 military regime led to his exile in 1969.
Gil performed at the 2024 Lollapalooza and has concerts currently scheduled to take place this September in Asia.
